What does Brohomes do?

First and foremost, we are what we have been for almost 10 years: agents for buyers and sellers of Triangle homes. We work for Fonville Morisey Realty in that capacity. However, in the last year and a half, we have begun the arduous but delightful task of completely renovating run-down homes. At this juncture, we do not hire out our subcontractors to work on any home. Though I  am training to get my general contractor license this fall, I currently reserve my oversight to work done on homes that I have purchased and on the homes of our listing clients.

We purchase one home at a time, usually homes that are difficult to sell because they have foundation problems or other major structural issues. Many of the homes we examine for purchase are estate homes where owners that once loved these bungalows have passed on, after several years of neglect, due to age and infirmity. It has been a tremendous pleasure to see these homes reclaim their honor as homes of distinction, often with new baths, kitchens and sunrooms that make them more than most people dreamed they could be.

We hire professionals from most of the major sub-contracting specialties: Foundation and Masonry, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical (heating, cooling and ventilation), Carpentry and Painting. Even we are surprised how beautiful these old homes can become! If there is one word that sets these homes apart from the majority of listings, it is “unique!” We look for the potential for uniqueness in the homes we purchase. We hire designers to look at our plans with us, with the goal of creating a home unique from anything else on the market. Our last two homes have sold within hours of coming to market because there is nothing to compare them to.

In our capacity as renovators, Lory and I are looking for:

1. Sellers of homes in Duke Forest, Forest Hills, Watts-Hillandale, Trinity Park, Old West Durham and Old North Durham, that require major work.
2. Buyers who want something unique, that reflects the intimacy and grandeur of early to mid 20th century architecture, but with the conveniences of 21st century systems and ornamentation.
3. Owners of homes in other parts of Durham that are looking to list their homes with agents that will take the time to make necessary repairs and who will stage their home so that it makes a “Wow!” impression.
